چکیده

We study the prospects of finding the first quasars in the universe with ALMA and JWST. For this purpose, we derive a model for the high-redshift black hole population based on observed relations between the black hole mass and the host galaxy. We re-address previous constraints from the X-ray background with particular focus on black hole luminosities below the Eddington limit as observed in many local AGN. For such luminosities, up to 20% of high-redshift black holes can be active quasars. We then discuss the observables of high-redshift black holes for ALMA and JWST by adopting NGC 1068 as a reference system. We calculate the expected flux of different fine-structure lines for a similar system at higher redshift, and provide further predictions for high-J CO lines. We discuss the expected fluxes from stellar light, the AGN continuum and the Lyman α line for JWST. Line fluxes observed with ALMA can be used to derive detailed properties of high-redshift sources. We suggest two observational strategies to find potential AGN at high redshift and estimate the expected number of sources, which is between 1 − 10 for ALMA with a field of view of ∼ (1) searching for line emission and 100− 1000 for JWST with a field of view of (2.16) searching for continuum radiation. We find that both telescopes can probe high-redshift quasars down to redshift 10 and beyond, and therefore truely detect the first quasars in the universe.

Estimating the continuum of quasars using the articial neural networks

A lot of absorption lines are in the bluewards of Lyα emission line of quasar which is well-known as Lyαforest. Most of absorption lines in this forest belong to the Lyα absorption of the neutral hydrogen in the inter-galactic medium (IGM). For high redshift quasars and in the continuum with low and medium resolution, there are no many regions without absorption, so that, the quasar continuum i...

The Broad Emission Line Regions of Quasars: Current Status and Future Prospects

The spectrum emitted by the Broad Emission Line Regions of Active Galactic Nuclei can measure the luminosity of the central object and the chemical composition of the interstellar medium in a very young galaxy, and so constrain the expansion of the universe and the first stages of the evolution of massive galaxies. Here I review some recent developments in our understanding of the nature of the...

Chandra and XMM - Newton Observations of the Highest Redshift Quasars : X - rays from the Dawn of the Modern Universe

We review X-ray studies of the highest red-shift (z > 4) quasars, focusing on recent advances enabled largely by the capabilities of Chandra and XMM-Newton. Included are discussions of basic X-ray population studies, X-ray spectroscopy, high-redshift AGN in X-ray surveys, and future prospects.

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey: Status and Prospects

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) is a project to definitively map π steradians of the local Universe. An array of CCD detectors used in drift-scan mode will digitally image the sky in five passbands to a limiting magnitude of r ∼ 23. Selected from the imaging survey, 10 galaxies and 10 quasars will be observed spectroscopically. I describe the current status of the survey, which is due to be...
